Bodrum

The town of Bodrum or Halicarnassus with the former Ancient Greek name, is a worldwide famous Aegean town with its’ castle that stands tall between the Eastern and Western harbors, it’s white houses that are scattered on their shores, its’ narrow streets that lead to the sea and the artfully crafted wooden boats that are made in its’ shipyards.

It has hosted many different civilizations over the centuries and has been invaded countless times by the population of the nearby islands, who wanted to dominate the Mediterranean. The land between Ionia and Lycia used to be called Caria and Halicarnassus (Bodrum) was one of its’ most important cities. It is the home of the “Father of History” Herodotus, the land of his epic poem; the Odyssey and the birthplace of the first female admiral in history; Artemisia I.

Today, it is a year-round resort hosting many music & art festivals every summer, including worldwide known artists. The famous “blue cruise” offers a completely different perspective of the area from the sea and is a must-have experience. The castle of St. Peter, the tomb of the King of Caria; Maussolleion, the ancient theater which is still used as a venue for concerts and the Myndos Door which was the ancient gateway to the city. In addition, the surrounding area also offers many opportunities for excursions: day-trip to Selçuk; the birthplace of Virgin Mary and Ephesus; home of the Temple of Artemisia or the ancient cities of Stratonikea and Lagina.
